Programs & Facilities

We have a structured program, involving a balance between athletics, waterfront activities, adventure rope course, arts and crafts, and special programs such as gymnastics, dance, nature, dramatics, horseback riding and tennis to name a few. As a girl moves from Juniors to Middies to Inters to Subs to Seniors, she finds that she has more choices as she gets older and an ever-increasing opportunity to specialize and concentrate on the activities in which she is most interested.

The waterfront is unbeatable. The program is conducted according to the American Red Cross and offers daily swimming instruction to all campers, as well as instructional and recreational activities in sailing, wind surfing, kayaking, canoeing, and an extensive water-skiing program.

Top instruction on our 8 all weather tennis courts provide campers with an opportunity to enjoy the sport while improving their skills. Through a combination of drills, skill enhancement exercises, and intercamp tournaments, all levels of players can get involved and enjoy our tennis program.

The athletics program includes basketball, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball and volleyball. Every time a camper goes to one of the athletic activities, she receives instruction followed by a complete game which is supervised by at least two counselors.

Arts & Crafts and fine arts are two favorites at Mataponi. Batiking, beading, enameling, painting, pottery and sewing are just a few of the exciting projects to be enjoyed by every camper.

A dynamic performing arts program consists of two major theater productions, with opportunities to contribute to scenery, stage productions, and of course a part in the show itself. Creative dance instruction encompasses modern dance, jazz, ballet, and tap culminating with an exciting dance recital.

Our on camp horseback riding program affords each camper the opportunity to learn basic English riding skills along with grooming and caring. Advanced riders are taught jumping and dressage. Additional trail rides are optional.

An emphasis is place on developing an awareness and appreciation of the environment. Canoeing, hiking and camping offer the girls the challenge of the outdoors. Both day and overnight voyager trips are included on our privately owned island. An eco-adventure awaits each camper through our day trips to close by mountains and beaches.

Our fully matted gymnasium is equipped with uneven bars, balance beams and vaults.
